  • All prospective students and their families are invited to attend one of our open house events. During the open house, our head of school and the faculty will share information about the vision and educational philosophy of The Downtown School. Panels consisting of current students and parents will be in attendance to answer questions and speak about their personal experiences as members of our community.

We are pleased to be able to offer both in-person and virtual open house events this year. Families should pick the format that works best for them. Registration through Ravenna is required. Open house events this admissions season are scheduled as follows:

    IN-PERSON: Saturday, November 4, 2023 (10 a.m.-12 p.m.)

    VIRTUAL: Wednesday, November 15, 2023 (7-8 p.m.)

    IN-PERSON: Sunday, December 3, 2023 (2-4 p.m.)

    In-Person Open House Details:

While on campus, families will have the opportunity to explore the campus and meet with faculty representatives from curricular departments, college counseling, and admissions.

Parking is available in the lot behind The Downtown School.

    Virtual Open House Details:

For those who would prefer a virtual option, we will host an open house webinar via Zoom.

After the virtual open house, a recording of the open house webinar will be made available upon request.

Please note: Attending an open house is optional.

  • During this webinar, Sue Belcher (Head of School) and Ashleigh Harper (Admissions & Financial Aid Associate) will go over financial aid availability and the process of applying for financial aid at The Downtown School.

The webinar will be hosted on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5-6 p.m. Please register through Ravenna to receive Zoom information.

  • Applicants are invited to come to The Downtown School for a half-day student visit. During their visit, prospective students will hear from the admissions team, go on a class tour (dropping in on 4-5 different classes for 5-10 minutes each), and have an opportunity to connect with current students to learn about their experiences at The Downtown School.

Morning student visits run from 8:45-11:00 a.m. (with the option to stay until 12:15 p.m. if taking our internal math assessment in lieu of the SSAT/ISEE). These visits include a continental breakfast.

Afternoon student visits run from 12:00-2:15 p.m. (with the option to stay until 3:30 p.m. if taking our internal math assessment in lieu of the SSAT/ISEE). These visits include lunch. Note that because of our current class schedule, afternoon visits will not include a visit to a math course (though students will get to see a math-based science course such as physics and/or chemistry). If it is particularly important to your student to observe a math class, we recommend selecting a morning visit instead.

This year, The Downtown School will offer several dates for student visits (below). Note that registration through Ravenna is required.

    • Tuesday, December 5, 2023 (afternoon)
